Is there a story prior to Batman Arkham Asylum?

I just don't much about Batman or most of the characters and their personal bios.



Or does this "Dark Knight" game have a story of it's own? Is it a stand-alone Batman game, or does it have ties story-wise to like other Batman games, movies, comics, etc.?Is there a story prior to Batman Arkham Asylum?
While the story is technically in its own universe, it is based on the 90's animated series that the voice actors starred in. There are elements from the comics too, but the prevalent inspiration is the Animated Series. It's only an inspiration though, the connection is sound but not tight.Is there a story prior to Batman Arkham Asylum?
